Freelancing

Freelancing is a term to describe someone who is self-employed who offers services. This can range from game designing to being part of a film crew. They will take on contracts by different companies and organizations but in the long-term, they actually work for themselves.

Freelancing does not come easy even though 90% of the UK in film production hires Freelancers but what if you’re in the game sector? Well, this comes down to around a 14% employ rate in the games sector. This means that you need to actually make other ways of income since Freelancers are on contracts and never work for a company.

Freelancers can find work on many different websites. As they need to be adaptable and very good communicators, putting themselves out in the world is what drives the interest for them. For example; they can look for work on websites like LinkedIn or even Fiverr. They may find some work locally or one of the more popular choices is to make their own website with portfolios of their work so when traffic drives to the website due to social media and by being on these other websites. They will be able to look at their work and see if they are suitable for the work they will provide.

But what about getting paid? Surely they do not work for free? That is correct, they do not work for free despite having “free” in their name. Normally, the work which they will do; they will get paid once the job is completed and normally they will be paid through companies such as PayPal or Stripe. Although they do have transaction fees of around 3% with a 0.30$ on top of that.

In the Freelancing world, people can make themselves a brand or keep themselves as a person. So let us look at some portfolios now! I, however, believe that freelancing is quite inconsistent and unreliable however you can be extremely lucky.

This is from Screenskills where Fionn Geaney has uploaded his profile so people can hire him for certain jobs within his industry. On Screenskills however, you cannot really add any portfolio work so maybe he can add his own website where he showcases his work.

In his portfolio, he describes himself as a Freelance Creative Strategist and Scriptwriter. So this is his niche in the film production industry. He clearly describes what he does and his experiences as well as his ambitions in the near future. Furthermore, he has put his location and his career stage so people can see at what point his skills are generally at.

So let me do an example:
